Brown Mountain Angus

 

In 2004 we purchased 70 stud heifers from the Weemalah Stud in Romsey, Victoria.  These stud heifers were progeny of sires and dams from Barwidgee, Sutherland and Victoree bloodlines.  The Victoree bloodline originated from the historical Bontharambo property located on the northern side of Wangaratta in north-east Victoria.  This was one of the first registered angus studs in Australia.

Brown Mountain Angus Now

From our original herd purchase, we have developed Brown Mountain Angus with an emphasis on the demands of a tough and challenging environment that we face.  The needs of the final consumer who want to eat angus beef that is healthy, has been at the forefront of our philosophy.  We believe that 100% grass-fed, high Omega-3 and high marbling are key to achieving this.  Grass is a cow’s natural diet and grass-fed beef offers you more “good” fats, Omega-3, and fewer “bad” fats, Omega-6.   It is richer in antioxidants, including Vitamin E, beta-carotene, and Vitamin C.

Our current herd comprises 200 Angus Breeders with 40 replacement heifers.  We have embraced the angus breed to supply hassle free genetics that are easy calvers, easy to handle and fertile.

Our herd graze on carefully managed natural grass pasture.  We are proud to say that our cattle have no added hormones, no antibiotics, are GMO free and meet the requirements of the Greenham’s Never-Ever Program.  Our herd also meets the requirements to sell to the EU market.

Our Direction

We aim to continue improving genetic performance in the direction we believe will benefit the industry and our clients in the long run.

We will continue to embrace regenerative and biological farming practices that help keep our soils and our animals healthy and happy.

We will continue to prioritise breeding cattle that provide health benefits to the final consumer, without artificial growth stimulants and excess unhealthy fat that happens with grain-fed cattle.

Brown Mountain Angus will provide buyers with some of the best-value, problem-free beef genetics available.

Our goal is to provide other angus breeders with high-quality carcase cattle that will marble off grass at a younger age.
