The quest for breeding better beef

is 40 years in the making.

I grew up in a “Foodie” Family.  My Mother, Sister, Brother & I are all Chefs.  I started my Apprenticeship back in the 80’s under Anthony Moran, (Matt Moran’s older brother) at the “Coonabarra Café”, Wahroonga, Sydney.

This introduction into the the Fine Food Scene was certainly a privilege and inspired me throughout my cooking career.  Having worked in many Al-a-Carte Restaurants, Pubs, Steakhouses, 5 Star Hotels and as “On-Board” Chef for First Class Airline flying internationally, my appreciation and respect for quality produce, grown and raised by passionate people was unwavering.  As a Chef is only as good as the meals they serve.

In 2000, I met Rosemary (my soulmate) and over the next three years our direction changed.  My passion for cooking never changed but needing some fresh air & new challenges was necessary.

2003 our opportunity came to buy a beautiful 1000ac farm in the Bega Valley at the base of Brown Mountain.  Together with our love of animals, nature, health and wellbeing, we embarked on a farming journey that became Brown Mountain Angus.

A family connection and a chance meeting with Rob Williams from “Victoree Angus” in Victoria, set our path in motion.  Rob’s incredible passion for MEAT and his in-depth knowledge of the Angus Breed continually reinforces and motivates our belief in what we do.

2008 saw us expand our business with the purchase of a further 2500ac property, “Brassey Creek”, Bungarby, which is bordered by the spectacular Snowy River.  This became home to our 200+ breeders leaving the home farm to grow out Bulls and calve down heifers.

Our goal is to breed and raise the healthiest, tastiest animals through natural farming practices.

Our love for animals and mother earth is behind every decision we make on farm.  (Sometimes to our detriment)

20 years along, with constant learning and trialling, we strive everyday to MEAT expectations.  The Journey continues and we would love to MEAT you somewhere along the way.

Bon Appetit,

Mason
